Primedia overhauls About.com Web network Reuters Via Forbes (April 27) - About.com got a new look today in efforts to increase traffic to the hub site (main page) for browsing and searching the guides. As part of the makeover, About.com wants to direct more targeted advertising based on a user's profile.
Colours are pleasant, and the drill down displays the content better: top level page opens for the section showing the subsections along with highlights. The individual guides - such as websearch.about.com - are easier to read. There are still lots of ads but they don't dominate the first screen. The two new sections - What's Hot Now and Most Popular Articles - are useful for orientation to the guide.
