Anne Savage: Canada's Digital Collections

Anne Savage: Canada's Digital Collections has added a new web site for the Anne Savage Collection of Student Art Works.

"The Anne Savage Collection of Student Art Works is an historic record of the teaching of Anne Savage, the Montreal artist who was one of the pioneers of modernist art education in Canada. Her students' art work provides concrete evidence of Savage's innovative and exemplary teaching methods. There was a parallel development of her teaching and her development as a painter."

Internet Connections: DSL a bargain

Internet Connections: DSL a bargain in Canada: Study by Ian Johnson in Globe and Mail (April 15, 2003) DSL for high speed access to the Internet is cheaper than in US or Europe. The article quotes an average of $30 CDN per month (though I've been paying close to $50 with Sympatico). But in the US it could easily be that in US dollars.

"Canada was the seventh largest user of DSL worldwide, with about two million lines. It was fifth in terms of the penetration of DSL in relation to population, with about seven DSL lines per 100 people in 2002, according to Point Topic. The high rate of DSL use is partly due to the fact that federal and provincial governments in Canada have encouraged the deployment of broadband infrastructure and services, the company [Point Topic] said."

Internet Connections: Canadians are more

Internet Connections: Canadians are more high-speed access than Americans. Broadband users made up 53.6% of Internet users in January 2003 whereas in the U.S. they were only 33.8%. Also broadband users are more active and do different things online to dialup users. Among these are listening to radio and getting financial information. Article notes that rural areas are more dependent on dialup because broadband hasn't reached them.
